Our client is a well-established company in the Durban area that requires an Assistant Manager: Trade Compliance to join their exclusive team. The objective is to assist the company to accomplish its objective through the evaluation and improvement of the effectiveness of customs and trade compliance by providing a professional, independent, objective assurance and consulting service designed to add value and improve operations.


Duties (will include but not limited to):

  • Review and assess tariff classification of goods
  • Support the monitoring and tracking the operations to ensure that all operations are conducted in accordance with the stipulations of the Customs and Excise registrations
  • Assessing relevant Customs legislation and SARS Policies to support business
  • Analysing provisions of the new Customs Acts to determine impact to business and engaging relevant departments proactively to ensure smooth transition
  • Assist in responding to SARS queries and business requests
  • Assist with CO2 and tyre levy refund processes
  • Assisting with internal compliance reviews
  • Facilitate Customs inspections, scrapping of goods and  other related activities
  • Apply to Customs for Tariff Determinations, Value Determinations etc. as well as dealing with other government departments e.g. ITAC, DTI to obtain clarity on policy interpretation.
  • Ad-hoc assignments


Minimum Requirements:             

  • Minimum NQF 5 (240 credits)
  • Certificate or Diploma in International Economics or International Trade (or similar qualification) or Maritime Law or Accounting
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a Trade and Customs Compliance role
  • Knowledge and application of Customs legislation
  • Experience in the Supply Chain Management field and/ or APDP will be an advantage
  • Must be computer literate with strong experience in using Microsoft Office packages
  • Experience in SAP will be an advantage
